Copper Beech. Location: Rear garden of, to the left of the house. The tree is mature and overhangs the roof of the house.Size: Approx. 20m in height with a broad spreading crown. Condition: The tree is generally healthy and well-established, but its canopy has extended significantly over the house. Several branches are in direct contact with the roof and guttering. The dense canopy is also creating heavy shade and contributing to damp conditions on the roof and walls of the building.Cut back lateral branches to achieve a clearance of at least 5m from the house. Selective crown reduction on the southern aspect (by up to 3-5m) to prevent ongoing contact with the roof, house and gutters. Removal of any dead, crossing or damaged branches within the canopy.Reason for works: To prevent physical damage to the house caused by branches in contact with the roof and guttering. To reduce excessive shading of the property, which is contributing to damp. To maintain the health and structural balance of the tree.

T63 Cherry. Fell. The cherry tree is in decline, with one of the co-dominant stems now dead. The remaining crown has become overextended, and several branches are in direct contact with the adjacent building.JustificationWhile it would be possible to reduce the crown to provide clearance, the extent of pruning required would be significant and would result in a poor, unbalanced appearance due to the tree's previous history of inappropriate pruning. Such works would not represent good arboricultural practice and are unlikely to provide a sustainable long-term solution.Given the tree's declining condition, the dead co-dominant stem, its proximity to the building, and the limited scope for sympathetic pruning, removal of the tree is recommended.T41 Sycamore, having experienced two recent branch failures. It is located at the base of a bank, adjacent to a busy public footpath and near other mature trees.JustificationThe crown contains mostly elongated, overextended lateral branches with a leggy form, which are considered to have contributed to the recent branch failures. To reduce the likelihood of further failures and improve the tree's structural integrity, it is proposed to reduce the affected overextended branches by up to 4m.Pruning cuts will not exceed 55mm in stem diameter and all works will be undertaken in accordance with BS 3998(2010) ? Tree Work Recommendations, retaining the tree's natural form and amenity value while reducing end-weight on the elongated limbs.T55 Yew Reduce the height of the yew by no more than 2.5m (approximately 20% of the crown height) and reduce the lateral canopy spread by up to 2 metres to re-establish a compact, well-balanced crown and provide a sustainable framework for future management.JustificationThe tree has developed an overextended crown with elongated branch growth beyond its natural form. The proposed reduction will restore a more compact and proportionate canopy, reducing leverage on extended limbs while

T1 Mature Beech (Protected by Tree Preservation Order)Proposed Works:Reduce the third western lateral limb by approximately 3m (from 8m to 5m) to reduce end-weight and leverage.Reduce the first eastern lateral limb, which originates immediately above a historic occluded pruning wound, by approximately 3m (from 10m to 7m), using pruning cuts not exceeding 75mm diameter.Reduce the southern canopy overhanging the public highway by approximately 2.5m (from 10m to 7.5m).Reduce the south-western upper lateral canopy by approximately 2m to shorten the overextended branch.Lightly reshape and blend the remaining extremities of the crown where necessary to create a balanced canopy profile in accordance with the above reductions. Crown lift tertiary growth foliage in line with the crown fork, this to allow light down into the understoryArboricultural Justification:The Beech occupies a prominent position immediately adjacent to the public highway and has recently experienced branch failures, indicating an increased likelihood of further limb failure associated with extended lateral growth and elevated end-weight. The proposed pruning seeks to reduce mechanical loading on the principal scaffold limbs, particularly those exhibiting excessive extension and historic pruning defects, thereby lowering the risk of future branch failure over the highway. The works are limited in extent, will retain the tree's natural form and amenity value, and represent appropriate cyclical management in accordance with the recommendations of BS3998:2010 Tree Work Recommendations.

What these statistics cover

These figures describe applications collected by PlanningTrack for Winchester City Council, across all dates currently available. They are a partial dataset, rather than an authority-wide performance measure. The date range does not establish continuous historical coverage.

The approval percentage is approved records divided by approved plus refused records. Pending, withdrawn and unknown outcomes are excluded. No percentage is shown until there is an approved or refused record.
