  12. Decision MadeP22/V0357/TCA

The tree is a sycamore (I believe), and is at the southern boundary of my garden. There is no TPO on it. It is about 35 years old and is around 50 to 60 feet high, with a horizontal spread of around 50 feet across my garden and my easterly neighbour's garden in No. 3. I understand it could grow to 100 feet high with a 100 feet horizontal spread. For many years I and my near neighbours (in house-numbers 2 and 3) have been alarmed at the prospect of its continual growth, for a number of reasons. In summer it casts a very long shadow onto five of the houses and gardens, thus affecting plant growth and access to sunlight. My neigbour in No.2 says that it has produced suckers all over his garden. It blocks more and more of the view of the RIdgeway that many of us here bought our houses to look at. On two occasions a branch has fallen from it onto my garden, but fortunately no-one was near it at the time. My neighbour in No. 3 has three children and he worries about them being under it. If it came down in a storm it would cause great damage. I am a pensioner with very limited means and I worry greatly about the expense of trying to maintain such a huge tree in the years to come. All of my neighbours, in the houses numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 (myself), and 5, would like it to be felled, with perhaps another much smaller tree planted nearby. There are no other houses or even foot-paths that have a view of the tree. So it is an "amenity" only for these houses. and all of them regard it as a problem, not as an an amenity. So the purpose of my application is to ask permission to fell the tree.

    Received 12 Aug 2025
  22. Decision MadeP23/V0060/TCA

    1. Two Ash (numbered 1 on the park plan on page 1 of the supporting material and shown in photograph on page 2) trees are showing symptoms of ash dieback disease. The trees are in a park accessible to the public and are growing close to a footpath, they have been inspected by a qualified arborist (https://www.jenksgroup.co.uk/) who has recommended that they are unstable and should be removed. The trees will be replaced with native crab apple or wild pear trees depending on availability. 2. A crack willow (numbered 2 on the park plan and shown on page 3 of the supporting information) is leaning at an extreme angle over the leat, the footpath and the gardens of the Pegasus Retirement Homes. We would like to remove the willow close to the ground and treat such that it does not grow back. The willow is grown around closely by young yew trees that will grow into the space and so no replacement planting is planned. 3. Two areas of hazel coppices (numbered 3 and 4 on the park plan on page 1 of the supporting material) need to be cut as part of the ongoing management of these traditionally coppiced trees. The work will be done over 2 years to reduce the impact on the appearance of the park. No stems will be cut that are above approx 10cm in diameter. The cut poles will be used as traditional woven fencing in the park. 4. Two goat willows (numbered 5 and 6 on the park plan and shown on page 4 of the supporting information) do not seem to be in good health having multiple dead limbs. These will be cut through at between 2 and 3 metres height to create a pollarded monolith. This will remove the danger of dead limbs dropping and it is hoped that it will stimulate new growth. 5. A sycamore (numbered 7 on the park plan and shown on page 5 of the supporting information) is contacting some power lines. We will contact the electricity supplier to deal with the issue and this may require the removal of a branch. 6. Two trees (numbered 7 and 8 on the park plan and shown on page 6 of the supporting information) have broken limbs These will be removed to prevent them falling on anyone.
