We are also building a mooring near the tree (Planning Consent Ref P15E0385) so if it falls it would cause significant damage to the structure. The tree will be removed to stump level, by a professional with appropriate equipment. To avoid any effect on the riverbank, the roots will not be disturbed. (Extract taken from Accompanying Tree Removal Report) "The tree is a self-set English Elm Ulmus procera growing out of the base of the river bank approximately 1m above the current water line. The tree is young (estimated at 15-20 years growth) with a diameter at breast height of 20.38 cm (circumference was 64cm). The tree has no living /sprouting green foliage and the bark was cracked, loose and peeling from the trunk. The tree was considered to be dead; most likely as a result of a fungal infection known as Dutch elm disease. There was no evidence of nesting birds and the tree was too immature to have features suitable to support roosting bats" "it is considered extremely likely that the dead tree will fall naturally into the river unless it is removed"
