I would like fell the silver birch as identified on my sketch primarily to the detrimental health effects.Secondary to this, behind the silver birch there is an old Yew Tree which I would protect and I believe the Yew would improve considerably by vastly greater sunlight and rainfall if the silver birch is removed. Thirdly, the silver birch is under 10m from the house and has grown considerably over the years we have owned the house and I am nervous of its proximity to the house given it?s size. Please note. I have considered a replacement tree however excluding the Silverbirch there are already 7 medium to large trees and 4 ornamental trees ( and numerous fir trees ) in the back garden alone ( and more trees to the front ) so there does not appear to be a sensible and reasonable area to plant.

G1: A group of oversized western red cedars that had been planted as a hedge but are now far too large for the property. Permission to fell group of trees. They were planted as a hedge line at the back of the property, but have now become completely oversized, shading the garden and taking up a large amount of space. The same has been done in the two properties next to this one.

Northern boundary:Along the northern boundary is principally a line of field maple Acer campestre. One tree at the west end is windthrown. The remaining trees have been tip reduced on the north side leading to a canopy being weighted towards the south into the site. These remaining trees also have overlong branches weighted to the south. Access at the base of the trees is limited by vegetation and material.Recommendation:Field maples: Tip reduce the field maples to a horizontal radial branch length of 7m. Remove deadwood more than 25mm diameter. Crown lift to 5m. Remove epicormic growth from base to 3m. Clear vegetation and material at the base of the trees to allow future survey.Southern boundary:Dead birch on the southern boundary.Outgrown line of conifer.Self-set buddleia and willow. Both species are rapid growing and invasive. Area of grass.Recommendation:Remove birch.Reduce height of conifer hedge to c6m.Remove self-set trees and shrubs less than 300mm diameter at the base and treat stumps to prevent regrowth.

T1 Semi Mature Ash ( Fractions excelsior ) FellThis twin stemmed tree is in the front garden on the left as you drive down the drive. This tree is now showing sings of ash die back ( Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus). It has a sparse crown with dead new growth and the start of epicormic growth which is would suggest the tree is under stress. There is also a large limb which has failed this has a fungus bracket on it called a shaggy bracket this would of caused the limb to fail as this fungus causes white rot. At the base of one of the stem there is a massive wound area this will be hosting pathogens. There is a substantial amount of decay in this stem, In the autumn months its very likely there will be fungus fruiting body's in this area. With all these faults ill recommend this tree is fell this winter.

What these statistics cover

These figures describe applications collected by PlanningTrack for Winchester City Council, across all dates currently available. They are a partial dataset, rather than an authority-wide performance measure. The date range does not establish continuous historical coverage.
