  3. Decision MadeP19/V2681/TCA

T1 - Leylandii Cypress T2 - Leylandii Cypress hedging T4 - English Yew Removal of T1 - Leylandii Cypress located close to the front of the house Reason for removal: This is a semi-mature leylandii cypress positioned close to the house and is causing damage to our property. The stem of the tree is located only 3m from the front elevation of the house and its roots have caused damage to both drains and exterior brickwork. This cypress is now quite tall and was measured to be 19m, and its canopy blocks out considerable light. As can also be seen from (Fig 1, 2 & 3) this tree has a co-dominant stem formation and also features "included bark" which has caused the base to swell (Fig 4) which represents a signficant growth defect that is likely to reduce its Safe Useful Life Expectancy. As the tree is positioned so close to the front of the house we feel it is prudent to remove this cypress for safety reasons. The tree also has an expansive canopy which touches the roof of the house (Fig 5) and its branches and leaf drop have caused damage. Over the autumn we have, at considerable expense, replaced the entire main roof of the house and therefore understandably wish to remove T1 Leylandii so that the new roof will not be similarly damaged. Removal of T2 - Leylandii cypress hedging on Brook Street boundary. Reason for removal: The front of East Wilden faces directly onto Brook Street as seen in (Fig 5, 6 & 7), the current hedge consists of 7 overly tall leylandii trees, which have been lift un-managed and are now at a height of over 8m tall. The trees all have poor form, (many are co-dominant) and as seen in the images, they are also now actually touching the overhead power ines which run parallel with our boundary - obviously a safety concern! We request permission to remove this group of low quality trees and replace them with a new boundary of either cypress/english yew/laurel hedging. We would also like to note that the T3 English Yew tree at the front of the house, see (Fig 8) is to be retained as the tree has good form and we feel it adds character as well as providing useful screening to the front of the house. Removal of T4 - English Yew - located in the courtyard of East Wildern Reason for removal: The house at East Wilden is comprised of a main dwelling located nearer to Brook Street, but also has a cottage and garages to the rear, situated across a courtyard. We request permission to remove this T4 English Yew tree as it is located too close to the rear cottage (see TLP) and the tree blocks out considerable light from the cottage. Its roots are also currently causing problems with the drains, which will only increase in time as the tree grows. As can be seen in (Fig 9 & 10) the tree is growing extremely close to the cottage, its branches are already extending to the roof-line and we feel it is prudent to have this tree removed. We would also like to state that there are a great many trees in the garden of East Wilden, particularly a mature Common Ash close to the house and a linear belt of Sycamores which again borders the front gardens, not to mention the main garden of East Wilden which is densely planted with trees. We intend to maintain the tree stock at East Wilden and are only requesting permission to remove the specific trees of T1, T2 Group and T4 as described above. Remarks:
