Council planning record

This application is for permission to fell 1 (one) tree on the front lawn of No. 9 Manor Close in Shrivenham. The tree is in a Conservation Area but is not subject to a Tree Preservation Order. The sketch below shows the position of the tree in relation to the house and Manor Close. The tree is a variety of beech, it has been slowly dying over the last few years, as it is infected with Armillaria (honey fungus). The fungus has attacked the tree from inside and the trunk and branches show clear signs of the infection. The tree is now dead. There is a danger that at some point the tree will blow down in strong winds. The intention is to replace the tree with a variety which is not susceptible to the fungus, which is prevalent in the area. Research is in progress to identify such a variety.
