The location of the dilapidated tree (crack willow / salix fragilis) is identified on the location plan submitted in support of the application. The tree has reached a stage where it has partially failed. The proposal is to pollard the tree (which is standard practice for willows) to a height of approximately 3-4m. Restructuring it to a monolith will maintain the tree and create a framework for future regeneration and will allow for the retention of the tree in a safe state, easily managed with cyclical pruning of the regeneration growth. A crack willow propagates by splitting and falling to pieces; the failed sections then taking root and growing into trees themselves. In nature this is no problem. However, close to structures, it is. It follows that the proposed works to this tree are required as soon as possible.
