5 Day Notice - Fell dead Ash tree. Significant Ash dieback with canopy 100% dead.

The tree is situated in our front garden on the border with the house next door. The crown overhanging next door has been cut back to approximately four to five feet. The crown on our side of the garden has not been pruned (by the previous owners of our property); and as such is now twelve to fifteen wide. Our main area of concern is the fact that the branches are beginning to grow through the telephone wires that serve the house next door, and will begin to cause damage in the near future. If this work is done the tree will also begin to look more symmetrical and in fitting with the area.

Eucalyptus T1: The proposed works involve selective crown reduction of the eucalyptus on the building side only, shortening the long, phototropic lateral limb by up to three metres back to suitable secondary growth points. All pruning will be carried out in accordance with BS3998:2010, retaining branch collars, avoiding flush or stub cuts, and maintaining a natural crown form. Final cuts will be limited to approximately 50 mm in diameter, with only minor balancing cuts elsewhere, if required, to maintain symmetry. The works are necessary because the tree has developed a long phototropic limb extending towards the building, supported by an attachment that is carrying increased mechanical loading. This limb is now in direct conflict with the structure and is subject to elevated leverage and sail forces during wind events. Reducing it will lower end-weight, reduce bending stress at the attachment, and restore safe clearance while retaining the tree?s amenity value. The reduction is a proportionate and arboriculturally sound intervention that directly addresses the mechanical loading on the limb without resorting to removal.Overall, the proposed reduction represents the minimum necessary intervention to manage structural loading and building conflict. The tree remains viable, and removal is neither justified nor proportionate. Selective reduction provides an effective means of managing asymmetric crown development and phototropic extension while preserving the tree?s contribution to the landscape. According to historical records held by the planning department, this tree has never previously been subject to any formal tree work.

T1 - Sweet Chestnut - Reduce the east (E) primary branch of the sweet chestnut that has sustained damage from the failed branch back to a suitable pruning point / point of origin in accordance with current arboricultural best practice.Remove damaged, torn, or fractured wood as necessary to leave a sound finished pruning wound. All material will be left on site. The FSC have also been made aware of these works. The proposed reduction of the damaged east primary branch is intended to lessen end-weight and reduce mechanical loading on the compromised structure, thereby mitigating the likelihood of further branch failure while retaining the branch for the long term where reasonably practicable. The extent of reduction has been specified to maintain sufficient live crown and preserve the existing branch framework and natural crown form in accordance with good arboricultural practice. Retention of the branch also allows the longitudinal split and associated wound features to develop as valuable habitat components, contributing to the tree?s ecological value and potential for habitat development over time. The works therefore seek to achieve an appropriate balance between risk management, tree retention, structural stability, and habitat conservation.

T001 - Atlas Cedar (Cedrus atlantica): Undertake a light, sympathetic lateral crown reduction of approximately 1.0-1.5 metres on the dwelling-facing aspect only in order to reduce encroachment toward the adjacent property and maintain a suitable spatial relationship with the building. Works to retain the tree's natural form and balanced crown structure, with an estimated post-work crown spread of approximately 6.5-7.0 metres on the pruned aspect and approximately 8.0 metres elsewhere throughout the retained canopy.Concurrent removal of significant deadwood over identified target areas, including adjacent dwellings and gardens, is also proposed as part of routine tree management. The proposed works are considered minor and proportionate arboricultural management intended to implement early-stage crown maintenance through small diameter pruning cuts, thereby avoiding the need for more extensive pruning works in the future. All works are to be undertaken in accordance with BS3998:2010 by suitably qualified and insured arboricultural contractors.

Works to be carried out by reduction back to suitable secondary growth points whilst retaining a natural and balanced crown form appropriate to the species.T0007 ? European Lime (Tilia x europaea): Undertake a light crown reduction and selective end-weight reduction of approximately 1.5?2.0 metres to elongated lateral limbs and upper co-dominant scaffold structure to reduce mechanical loading and wind sail. Remove ivy from the lower stem and primary unions and undertake routine monitoring of the co-dominant union structure.T0005 & T0003 ? European Lime (Tilia x europaea): Undertake light crown reduction and selective end-weight reduction of approximately 10?15% throughout the outer canopy to reduce loading on historic scaffold unions and constrained basal structures adjacent to the retaining wall. What these statistics cover

These figures describe applications collected by PlanningTrack for Torbay Council, across all dates currently available. They are a partial dataset, rather than an authority-wide performance measure. The date range does not establish continuous historical coverage.

The approval percentage is approved records divided by approved plus refused records. Pending, withdrawn and unknown outcomes are excluded. No percentage is shown until there is an approved or refused record.
