    Received 9 Jan 2026
  16. Decision MadeP23/S2305/TCA

    1) Copper Beech on the right hand side of the garden - felling preferred because the roots are undermining my neighbour's barn but if not allowed, reduce height by 5m and trim lower branches to retain the present shape of the tree which is very pleasing. It will be replaced with a weeping copper beech which be easier to keep under control. 2) Three Sycamore trees at the far end of the garden which have grown from wind blown seeds - to be felled. These trees have grown to a great height and now keep much of the garden in shade at all times except high summer. They will be replaced by solar panels surrounded by an appropriate height hedge to reduce any visual impact. 3) Giant convolvulus tree in the bottom left hand corner of the garden - reduce the crown by 5m and trim the lower branches to reduce the diameter proportionately. Cut back branches overhanging my neighbour's land. 4) Very tall apple tree at the end of the barn on the left hand side of the garden - to be felled. The tree has become unusually tall for an apple tree. A consequence of its great height is that falling apples have caused extensive damage to the adjacent tiled roof. Because of the height, apples falling from the top of the tree could serious injury. It is almost certain that new shoots will grow from the stump. One or two will be allowed to grow in a controlled way to provide a replacement. If the stunp dies, a new apple tree will be planted. 5) Maple tree close to the apple tree and shown behind Laburnum in photo - to be felled. This tree was planted as a joke by one of our children. It will be replaced by a smaller fruit tree. 6) Crab apple tree - reduce the crown by 4m and trim the lower branches proportionately. The tree's branches now touch the adjacent barn and there is a risk they will damage the roof in windy weather. The roots are threatening the barn's foundations. 7) Pine tree midway between the apple and crab apple trees - need advice on whether or not to fell it - this tree is now so high that it is no longer protected from storms by the hill at the foot of the garden. Were it to fall, it would either come down on the house or the barns beside it.

Client requests large reduction to contain them and keep them viable. The trees are blocking significant amounts of light to the property. They also have attracted a significant amount of pigeons which is creating an unhealthy amount of bird excrement at the property.
