Significant regeneration is present but a collection of cavities located at points of regeneration are scattered throughout the canopy. It is quite apparent that some of the decay in these cavities is progressive and the vigour of the tree at this age is not helpful in the long term prognosis of further deterioration. Some regeneration has failed (breakage) and sporadic areas show anemic regrowth due to the deteriorating and failing cambium associated with progressive cavities. No maintenance as such has been carried out on this tree and it would be quite prudent and a duty of care responsibility to implement remedial works. There is sufficient sub-dominant material to reduce the overall canopy by 2-3 metres providing a well balanced new crown with a flowing crown outline. This reduction of canopy "sail" will also assist the safety of this area, however the tree will require regular inspections. During works a detailed aerial inspection should be carried out with findings being reported to the Head Gardener and the Local Authority as necessary. In order to facilitate these works whilst the restaurant and hotel is functioning, works will be carried by means of hand pruning and the debris will be chipped in 4 x 15 minutes sessions to minimise occupants discomfort. 1 x Acer pseudoplatanus - thin canopy by 10% and crown clean. 1 x Acer peudoplatanus - remove dead, dying and diseased wood and crown clean (beside Evergreen Oak). 1 x Quercus ilex - remove rooks nests and carry out aerial inspection. 2 x Acer pseudoplatanus - remove rooks nests. • P20/S1451/TCAT1 1x Aesculus hippocastanum - a late mature Chestnut surrounded by accommodation blocks and footpaths. Approximately 30+ years ago the tree was extremely harshly pruned. Significant regeneration is present but a collection of cavities located at points of regeneration are scattered throughout the canopy. The decay in these cavities is unknown, the vitality of the tree is currently good, given its age and condition. Some areas show anemic regrowth due to the deteriorating and failing cambium associated with progressive cavities. Remedial work is required to ensure a duty of care is kept to those who use the area. There is sufficient sub-dominant material to reduce the overall canopy by 2.0-3.0 metres, providing a well-balanced new crown with a flowing crown outline. This reduction of canopy 'sail' will also assist the safety of this area; however, the tree will require regular inspections.
