Council planning record

Pine (Pinus nigra, likely ssp Laricio or Calabrica) â¿¿ no 1 on plan, 95 cm diameter at breast height: Remove three dead lower limbs, already breaking up due to needle blight and subsequent die-back. See photos. This is a large tree of very high amenity value, which I would very much like to protect. Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) â¿¿ no 2 on plan, 30 cm diameter: Section-fell this tree as, with the cypress (no 3 below), it is encroaching into the crown of Pine no 1. Likely originally planted by previous owners as a screening hedge, it has grown too tall and leggy, of no amenity value but instead reducing the amenity value of the very tall pine no 1. Moreover its crowding into the crown of no 1 creates conditions for needle blight to continue to damage that pine. (NB Dothistroma and other blights thrive in damp conditions where airflow is restricted) Cypress (Cupressus likely macrocarpa) â¿¿ no 3 on plan, 34 cm diameter. Same rationale as for no. 2 above. Trees no 2 and 3 will be replaced with shrubs that grow to 2 m maximum â¿¿ likely Ilex and Garrya spp.
