Council planning record

T1 Wellingtonia Located on the South Eastern boundary of the church grounds, adjacent to Church Lane. Large over mature specimen approximately 22+mtrs in height located in raised burial ground of church grounds in close proximity to retaining boundary wall. Church lane is adjacent and drops approximately 1.5mtrs down to the lane. Single stemmed throughout Low cluster of primary limbs starting at approximately 5mtrs from ground level, look to be in reasonable condition at time of inspection although unable to fully assess from ground level. At approximately 10mtrs from ground level the western side of the canopy is devoid of branch work, leaving branch work and foliage clusters on the eastern side growing toward the church. This patterns extends all the way to the top where previous pruning has taken place. This may be due to previous failure of the top section which then damaged the lower west side of the canopy, resulting in pruning works to this end. Apical die back is now present at the top of the tree, indicating some signs of stress. This may be due to over maturity in which the tree is naturally veteranizing itself and dying back to lower elements of the canopy that are easier to sustain. Or possibly climatic stress and soil compaction caused by the adjacent highway. It could be a combination of all the above. Dead wood has been previously removed Base of the tree and associated root system/root plate are having a direct impact on the adjacent wall Conclusion. The tree is over mature with various ailments associated with age. There are elements of die back in the upper canopy which indicate over maturity and some form of stress in the root system. The tree does directly impact the wall and will continue to, albeit at a continuing slower rate as diameter growth in the roots system and main stem will slow down with maturity. and works to renovate the wall will impact the roots system which could lead to further decline. Request is to fell to ground level.
