Westdown Quarry has the benefit of the following planning permissions: • IDO Permission dated 23/10/1992 (Ref. IDO/M/1/A); and • Review of Old Minerals Planning Permission (ROMP) for the winning and working of limestone dated 04/11/1998 (Ref. 016248/005)1. Both historic permissions were registered with the Mineral Planning Authority in accordance with the provisions of the Planning and Compensation Act 1991 (for the IDO consent) and the Environment Act 1995 (for the ROMP consent). In accordance with these registrations, working cannot recommence until the County Council has agreed an updated scheme of planning conditions in line with modern environmental standards. Total permitted reserves at Westdown are identified as some 160 million tonnes (mt) and it is proposed to submit proposals to update planning conditions and a restoration plan to enable xtraction to resume at Westdown Quarry. It is envisaged that extraction would be at a rate of between circa 2.0 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), with the mineral processed on site before being transported by rooad to local markets. It is acknowledged that the proposed extraction at Westdown Quarry will need to be suppoted by an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in that the proposed development is deemed a shedule 1 'mandatory' development as set out in the Town and County Planning (Evnironmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2017 i.e the EIA Regulations. Specifically, it is proposed to discuss the scope of the EIA and the required ROMP and IDO submissions with the Council at a pre-application meeting.

What these statistics cover

These figures describe applications collected by PlanningTrack for Somerset Council, across all dates currently available. They are a partial dataset, rather than an authority-wide performance measure. The date range does not establish continuous historical coverage.

The approval percentage is approved records divided by approved plus refused records. Pending, withdrawn and unknown outcomes are excluded. No percentage is shown until there is an approved or refused record.
