The proposed single storey front extension by reason of its scale, massing, general design and prominence, would result in an incongruous, visually dominant and unsympathetic form of development that would have a detrimental impact upon the character and appearance of the application property, as well as that of the surrounding street-scene and built environment, by virtue of being the only full width front extension in this part of Long Furlong Drive and the fact that it would interrupt the rhythm and development pattern of buildings along it which give the appearance of terraces that stagger away from the highway and overlap each other. As such, it would be in conflict with Core Policy 8 of the Slough Core Strategy, Policies H15, EN1 and EN2 of the Slough Local Plan and the guidance notes DP1, DP2, DP3, and EX1 of the REGSPD 2010.
The two-storey element of the rear extension, by virtue of its scale, massing and proximity the rear garden of 10 Long Furlong Drive would represent an obtrusive and overbearing structure that would create a harmful sense of enclosure when seen from no.10 and compromise the ability for its occupiers to enjoy their private amenity space. In addition insufficient information has been provided to determine how the proposal would relate to the neighboring ground floor windows at No. 10 Long Furlong Drive which could suffer a loss of light and outlook It would therefore fail to comply with Policies EN1, EN2 and H15 of the Slough Borough Local Plan 2004 and Paragraph 2.2.1 of the Residential Extensions Guidance Supplementary Planning Document (2010).
It is the view of the Local Planning Authority that the proposed development does not improve the economic, social and environmental conditions of the area for the reasons given in this notice and it is not in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework.
