Council planning record

The three chimney stacks above the roof on the building are in need of repair. These are of red brick construction with a cement based mortar, with lead flashing around the base. They had been rendered with cement based mortar, but some of this has perished, revealing the bricks underneath. The existing mortar, which is cement based and was applied around 40 years ago, has failed and is no longer sealing the gaps between the bricks. This is allowing water into the property and some of the brickwork is coming loose. We propose replacing the mortar using similar material. If individual bricks are in too poor a condition to reuse, we will source new or reclaimed bricks as close to the original as possible, and will re replaced without altering the outward appearance or dimensions of the chimneys. The chimneys will then be rendered to restore the finish as it was prior to degradation. Scaffolding will be required during the works. Building supplies will be brought on site on the existing access route with no changes needed.
