Reason for approval The application is satisfactory in that the design and appearance of the proposed classroom, additional boundary treatment, revised car park arrangement and relocated timber shed accords with the principles of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and, where appropriate, the Council has worked with the applicant in a positive and proactive way in line with paragraph 38 of the NPPF (2024). In addition, the proposed classroom, additional boundary treatment, revised car park arrangement and relocated timber shed accords with the local policy requirements (Policy CS4 and CS5 & DC1 of the Council's Local Development Framework). In particular, the proposed classroom, additional boundary treatment, revised car park arrangement and relocated timber shed are designed so that the appearance is complementary to the existing main school building and as such will not have a detrimental impact on the appearance of the existing building or wider street scene. The design and location of the proposed classroom, additional boundary treatment, revised car park arrangement and relocated timber shed is considered not to result in a detrimental impact on the amenity of the neighbours of the nearby residential properties or on highway safety. The application is therefore considered to be acceptable, fully in accordance with the relevant policy guidance and there are no material considerations which indicate that the application should be refused.
