  8. Decision MadeHGY/2023/3085

This application concerns a very large Laurus nobilis (bay tree), T1 on the sketch plan. This overgrown bush/ tree was crowned in January 2022 (see previous application for tree works, CON/2021/0696), reduced by about 50% of its height. However, the remainder is still tall, wide and overgrown, drastically reducing the light available to the neighbours in Lynmouth Road, 1A and Chedington (see attached photographs). The owner, Paul Bernard, acknowledges this problem and has now agreed that it can be removed. This application is therefore for the complete felling/removal of the tree. There is a pretty silver birch tree (Betula pendula) very close to and overshadowed by the bay tree (see photo) and this will thrive after its removal. The owner also has plenty of other trees in his garden, but would no doubt consider a more ornamental replacement (not necessarily in the same place) if so required.
