REFUSE: Yew (T1) - Full crown reduction of no more than 1.5m from tips inwards, ensuring that all cuts are brought back to viable growth points & that no pruning wounds exceed 50mm in diameter. Undertake a 10% crown thin. REASON FOR REFUSAL: T1 is a notable yew in a prominent position within the Old Bursledon Conservation Area. Although previously reduced, the crown shows signs of stress and is unlikely to tolerate further works of this nature to this extent at this time. The proposed crown reduction and crown thin will remove significant amounts of foliage, buds and small twigs. This will increase the amount of stress on the tree and will foreseeably result in further deterioration. Lesser works have been permitted (see below).
CONSENT TO: Yew (T1) Raise the crown to no more than 4m from ground level. Selectively prune to clear building and chimney by up to 2m.
CONDITION: 1. The tree works hereby consented shall be completed within 2 years of the date of this permission and shall be carried out in accordance with the approved details and to British Standard for Tree Work BS3998:2010 REASON: To ensure consented works are carried out to an appropriate standard.
Notes to applicant: All works hereby consented should be carried out by a suitably qualified and insured tree surgeon. A copy of the decision notice should be given to the Tree Surgeon. Deadwood may be removed at any time without an application. Please be advised that the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as amended, the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 and the Conservation (Natural Habitats) Regulations 1994 protect ALL wild birds, their nests (whether in use or being built) and eggs and other wild animals including bats and their roosts in or adjacent to trees. The granting of consent does not give the applicant or their agent a legal right to enter land without the owner’s permission. Advice regarding overhead utilities should be sought with the relevant service provider prior to commencing works.
