The proposed development is to form a new 80-place Special Educational Needs school on the site of the existing Ulverston Victoria High School. The facility will replace the existing Sandside Lodge School building which is no longer fit for purpose. Sandside Lodge caters for a range of children with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties aging from 2 – 19 years old. In addition to the Primary and Secondary Teaching Spaces, the new school will incorporate a full school kitchen, sensory rooms, soft play and calming rooms, as well as a fully equipped therapy suite with Hydrotherapy pool, Rebound therapy and Physiotherapy. It is also intended to incorporate the county’s SEND Resource Team at the site which will help the school develop into a Centre of Excellence for Autism.
