Council planning record

Following consultation from Dave Cottrell, Tree Surgeon, on 30th July 2025, we would like to request to carry out the following tree works: 1. Species: Thuja (Conifer) Location: Rear garden, situated close to the boundary with neighbouring property and adjacent to a mature walnut tree. Proposed Work: Full removal (felling) of the Thuja tree. Reasons for Proposed Work: Excessive Height and Size: The tree has grown disproportionately large for a domestic garden setting. Its dense evergreen canopy significantly reduces natural light to both the house and garden throughout the year. Proximity to Other Trees: The Thuja is growing in close proximity to a mature walnut tree, and its presence is inhibiting the healthy growth and form of the walnut due to competition for light, space, and nutrients. Amenity Impact: The treeâ¿¿s dominance in the garden has reduced the enjoyment and utility of the outdoor space. Its removal would allow for improved light levels and better long-term management of surrounding vegetation. 2. Species: Bramley Apple Location: Rear garden Proposed Work: Spur pruning of the Bramley Apple tree to encourage fruiting and maintain shape. Reasons for Proposed Work: Seasonal Maintenance: The tree is managed as a traditional fruiting apple, and periodic spur pruning is necessary to maintain healthy structure and fruit production. Good Arboricultural Practice: The proposed work is a standard horticultural technique, targeting specific shoots to enhance productivity without significantly altering the tree's overall size or form. Tree Health: Regular maintenance supports the long-term health and vitality of the tree, ensuring it remains an attractive and functional feature of the garden. 3. Species: Willow Location: Front garden, adjacent to the public footpath Proposed Work: Pollarding of the willow tree to reduce weight and mitigate risk of branch failure. Reasons for Proposed Work: Public Safety: The tree overhangs a public footpath, and one of the larger limbs is showing signs of becoming excessively heavy, creating a risk of structural failure that could endanger pedestrians or property. Preventative Maintenance: Pollarding is a recognised and appropriate method of managing mature willows. The proposed work is intended to reduce canopy weight and prevent potential damage to the main trunk and root system. Tree Health and Longevity: This intervention aims to maintain the health and structure of the tree, ensuring its safe retention in the landscape while reducing the likelihood of future damage.
