Tree. Lombardy Poplar. On the eastern boundary of the property (if not in the conservation area then on its boundary - hence this application). The tree is against the neighbour's fence and adjacent to the Red Lion Pub car park. See sketch map on page 3 for location. The tree has heart fungus, a hollow stem, height of the hollow now easily over 2 metres. There is risk of tree falling in strong winds. Prevailing wind from west/south west means fall would likely be onto neighbouring property and/or people/vehicles in the Pub car park. Tree stem is also starting to encroach on neighbour's fence. In addition tree is next to a mains sewer chamber which raises the question of potential for risk of roots compromising sewage pipe/chamber close by. Crown reduction was carried out in March/April 2011 to reduce "sail" and risk of falling (SODC consent letter CA5131 dated 25 March 2011 refers). Tree has re-grown to above original height, and while individual "new stems" might break at point of growth the overall effect in strong wind would be to create considerable force on the hollow stem at its base with consequent risk of the tree falling. INTENTION. TO FELL DISEASED LOMBARDY POPLAR TO THE GROUND (in light of increasing risk of falling, together with disruption to neighbour's fence and concern over compromising the main sewer).
