Leads for plumbers from planning applications
Planning applications rarely describe pipework, but extensions, conversions and new homes usually need new bathrooms, kitchens or heating. These applications are plumbing leads you can find before the work is let.
Choose extensions and conversions, and new homes, in your alert. Area alerts emails the matches near a postcode as a daily or weekly digest, with the proposal, the address and a link to the council record.

| Loft conversion with en-suite | A new bathroom in the roof space and extended hot water and heating. |
| Annexe | A self-contained unit, usually with its own kitchen and bathroom. |
| Conversion of garage to habitable room | Heating extended into a room that had none. |
| Erection of 2 dwellings | Full plumbing, heating and drainage in each new home. |
Marketing for plumbers
Plumbers get much of their work from repairs and recommendations. Planning applications add bathrooms, kitchens and heating in extended or new homes, usually weeks before the plumbing work is needed.
- Read the proposal for rooms with water. Wording such as kitchen, en-suite, bathroom or annexe shows that the project needs plumbing. Open the drawings on the council record to check.
- Contact builders on larger projects. On new homes and large extensions, the main contractor usually hires the plumber, so introduce yourself to builders working in your area as well as to owners.
- Write after approval. Owners plan the build after permission is granted. Offer to price the plumbing and heating with the building work.
- Mention your registrations. If you work on boilers, say that you are Gas Safe registered, and give examples of similar jobs nearby.
Area alerts subscribers can have an introduction letter printed and posted to the address of a matched application for £1.95 a letter. Letters are addressed to the owner or occupier and do not name the applicant. Copy the letter template.
